What should I do if I see a bear?
Wildlife, including bears are commonly found in Sun Peaks. Never leave food or garbage outdoors.
Do not approach or feed them.
Keep your distance, when possible, and alert them to your presence by talking loudly in a calm voice, banging pots or other loud noises you can make.
Back away slowly. Do not turn your back, but do not make direct eye contact. Do not run.
Make yourself appear large — put young children on your shoulders; wave your arms.
Do not threaten or challenge the bear. If a bear charges, do not run — it is a sign of weakness — stand your ground.
