How far from Sun Peaks Village is Pinetree Chalet?

500 meters - approximate 7 minute walk along gently sloping paths

What neighbourhood is Pinetree Chalet in?

We are located in Sunburst Estates, which is a quiet house-only neighbourhood very close to Sun Peaks village.  Sun Peaks has full-time residents, so guests are expected to respect the quiet hours of 10pm to 8am.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check in any time after 4pm.  If you arrive after 10pm please keep noise to a minimum.

Check-out is before 10am.

Requests for early arrival or a late departure must be arranged in advance.  We need to ensure there is adequate time to properly prepare the house between groups, around schedules.  If you would like an extension of more than 2 hours, please check with us about the possibility of a partial-day rental to your existing reservation.

What is the layout of the house?  What areas do guests have access to?
The house has four levels -all are above ground.  The base level is the garage.  Above that is the Sugar Pine Suite.  Access to the Main House is on the third level - once you're there you will also have access to the upper floor.  There is a covered outdoor staircase between the main house and suite.  The garage, storage and utility rooms are not accessible to guests.

Is internet available?

Yes, internet is available and free (streaming not supported).  Connection instructions will be provided.

Are campfires or open fires permitted?

All open fires are prohibited in the general Kamloops area from early-June until late-October.  A permit is required for open fires. Click on this link for the latest information.

Is there a phone?

Due to the vast use of personal phones, a landline is no longer needed.  If guests need a Canadian number while visiting, please mention it for tips on arranging one.

Is there parking?  How many cars?

Free private parking is included.  Bylaws permit a maximum of 5 vehicles -  four spots with the main house rental, and one with the suite rental.  Parking on the street is prohibited in winter, but there may be availability in public parking lots.  Please plan accordingly.

Are there laundry facilities?

The Main House has a washer and dryer, and we provide eco-friendly soap to get you going.  (Sorry, laundry is not provided in the Sugar Pine Suite.)

Is bedding provided?

Yes.  All beds have plush New Zealand wool mattress pads for temperature control, and queen beds also have featherbed or memory foam toppers for extra comfort.  Beds will be made up for you with either organic cotton or 400+ t.c. cotton sheets that are colour-matched to the decor.  If you use oil or bleaching products on your skin, please let us know so we can make up your bed with regular sheets that aren't affected by these products.

Is Pinetree Chalet child-friendly?

You bet!  The house is great for extended or multiple families.  Let us know about the make-up of your group and we will offer suggestions on room allocations.  We offer you tips for keeping both the kids and our house safe, plus advice for family-friendly activities.  We will also stock the movie library with kids and family movies for you to enjoy.  We require that parents partner with us in ensuring our home, yard and contents are cared for.  A responsible adult must be on site when children are present.

Are pets welcome?

We may consider 1 or 2 dogs ($60 fee each).  For approval, please request a copy of our Pet Policies. The Sugar Pine Suite and all bedrooms are "off limits" due to potential allergies.  Our yard is dog-friendly (please clean up all messes).  Owners must agree to take responsibility for any costs related to excess cleaning or damage.

What are your smoking and alcohol policies?

Smoking, vaping, drugs, cannabis are not permitted on the premises.  Responsible consumption of alcohol only - absolutely NO PARTIES!  Failure to comply will result in eviction without refund.

Is there a hot tub?

We have a hot tub for guest use only.  Hours are from 8am to 10pm.  Hot tub towels are provided.  Guests booking 6-bedrooms will have exclusive use.  For 4- or 5-bedroom bookings, your private hot tub time may be allotted. Instructions will be provided upon booking.

Are there special considerations for driving to Sun Peaks in the winter?

Although the roads are well maintained during snowy conditions, winter tires or chains are required to travel on most BC highways from October 1st until April 30th.  This rule may be enforced, and cars without these requirements may be denied passage.

What happens if I see a bear?

It is not unusual to see bears and other animals.  Do not attempt to pet or feed them.  Never leave food or garbage outdoors.  Keep your distance, when possible, and let them know of your presence by talking loudly in a calm voice, banging pots or whatever loud noises you can make.  Do not turn your back to the bear but do not make direct eye contact, and make yourself look as large as possible - put young children on your shoulders, and wave your arms.  Carefully walk backwards away from the bear, talking loudly but calmly, so you do not appear threatening.  Do not challenge the bear, nor back off if it charges you - it is a sign of weakness - stand your ground.
