Are there special considerations for driving to Whistler in the winter? Although the roads are very well maintained during snowy conditions, winter tires or chains are required to travel past Squamish from November to April. This rule may be enforced, and cars without these requirements may be denied passage.
What happens if I see a bear? It is not unusual to see bears in Whistler. Do not attempt to pet or feed them. Never leave food or garbage outdoors. Keep your distance, when possible, and let them know of your presence by talking loudly in a calm voice, banging pots or whatever loud noises you can make. Do not turn your back to the bear but do not make direct eye contact, and make yourself look as large as possible - put young children on your shoulders, and wave your arms. Carefully walk backwards away from the bear, talking loudly, so he knows you are not a threat. Do not challenge the bear, nor back off if it charges you - it is a sign of weakness - stand your ground.
Should I bring firewood? Our fireplace is propane fueled. Outdoor fires now require a permit, and are banned from June to the end of September, so firewood will not be necessary.
Is the house decorated for the holiday season? Yes! If you have a reservation that includes the Christmas or New Years holiday you will be welcomed by a trimmed tree, garlands, poinsettias, bobbles, wreath & swag, nutcracker and more. We can almost guarantee icicles and snowmen (we'll provide the yard full of snow and you can make your own snowman!). We love the holidays and we want to help you create magical memories of your stay at Pinetree Chalet!
