Are there special considerations for driving to Whistler in the winter? This rule may be enforced, and cars without these requirements may be denied passage.
What happens if I see a bear? It is not unusual to see bears in Whistler. Do not attempt to pet or feed them. Never leave food or garbage outdoors. Keep your distance, when possible, and let them know of your presence by talking loudly in a calm voice, banging pots or whatever loud noises you can make. Do not turn your back to the bear but do not make direct eye contact, and make yourself look as large as possible - put young children on your shoulders, and wave your arms. Carefully walk backwards away from the bear, talking loudly, so he knows you are not a threat. Do not challenge the bear, nor back off if it charges you - it is a sign of weakness - stand your ground.
Should I bring firewood? Our fireplace is propane fueled. Outdoor fires now require a permit, and are banned from June to the end of September, so firewood will not be necessary.
